Armstrong states, “To regard beauty as a luxury adornment or a social signifier was to miss the true potential of the experience”. I believe Armstrong is trying to convey that if someone looks at beauty as a representation of their wealth or to promote their social status, then they truly do not understand what beauty is. Another quote from Armstrong which I appreciate is, “… don’t get worked up trying to figure out which things are beautiful”. I enjoy how Armstrong states to not overthink what beauty is, I feel as though there is so much pressure for everyone to agree on one definition of beauty even though everyone has there own definition. Armstrong truly captures that stigma through this quote. Personally I feel as though beauty is nature, a baby’s laughter, or even a smile. However, society heavily pressures people to believe that beauty is only found in people specifically tall women, who are as skinny as a twig, who have hair the color of honey, and who have eyes the color of the ocean. Yes, I agree people are beautiful. However, I wish that society would not pressure others to change their vision of beauty to be molded to be just one definition. I believe that even the fact that we all have a vast variety of definitions of beauty is beautiful itself.
