From Inquiry Through Discovery

To preface what will follow our PICOT question is, “In adult patients requiring urinary catheterization, how do indwelling catheters compare to intermittent catheters for risk of CAUTI during hospitalization?”

Initially deciding upon a topic of interest was not difficult, the difficulty was within formulating a PICOT question that would aid in the discovery of research articles. In our first attempt, we thought to focus on the geriatric population and long-term utilization of an indwelling catheter. However, we soon realized this had narrowed our options, and created many difficulties in finding articles that we could utilize for this project. Thus, we reevaluated our options, we decided to eliminate long-term use and only focus on the basis of it all which was, how do indwelling catheters compare to intermittent catheters for risk of CAUTI in patients who are hospitalized? To come to this conclusion, it had taken several revisions however, now we have all been able to find articles that are able to be utilized. Whenever a challenge arises the team is quick to communicate said issue and thus far things have run rather smoothly. If communication needs to be elaborated upon we utilize zoom however, most challenges have been able to be overcome with a message, as it is simply a clarification issue on the material.
