Pre Interview Reflection

My subject is a nurse who I have worked closely with for the past year, I have been able to learn a vast array of information from them already. However, I hope to gain more knowledge through this interview. This nurse demonstrates compassion, critical thinking, dedication to quality care, respect, and emotional intelligence. This nurse always attempts to place their patient first and advocates for not only their patients but their coworkers as well. They demonstrate a passion for the care in which they provide, and enter every shift hopeful to help their patients.

This leader is an informal leader, they do not have a title ie Charge, or tertiary care leader. An informal leader is a leader where they are perceived as a leader due to reputation, credibility, and influence without holding a position of power. This individual had demonstrated the ability to lead and navigate through challenging times. As a result, others look to this individual for advice and assistance thus, helping their coworkers during trying times. I have personally looked to this person on multiple occurrences for advice, which has always been met with a smile and encouragement to ask further questions. From this nurse, I have learned no question is too big or too small, and looking for reassurance on making a decision is never bad when the outcome is for the benefit of the patient.

I hope to gain insight into how this nurse chose to enter into this field/specialty, and how this has shaped them over the years.  That through this interview I may learn new resources available to me, as well as an insight on what characteristics this individual has or challenges they have faced. To see how these play a role in their insight of challenges, and how they are courageous enough to face them head on. I am curious if this nurse has dealt with many ethical issues, and how they were able to navigate this situation. From this, I hope to gain some insight on how to navigate ethical dilemmas that I will encounter in the future.  This nurse continuously offers advice in trying times, and thus, I hope with the ability to sit down for an interview I can gain further advice and knowledge they have to offer.
