Influence Paper

This paper will discuss the correlation between catheter-associated urinary tract infections and indwelling catheters. To determine this correlation a few studies were drawn upon, for instance, a quality improvement project by Alexaitis & Broome which was conducted in 2014. A pre and post-intervention study conducted in 2020 by Giles et al. Finally a retrospective study conducted in 2016 by Nguyen et al. Each study drew light upon this subject, which we thus, utilized to answer our PICOT question: “In patients who are requiring urinary catheterization, how do indwelling catheters (IDC) compare to intermittent catheters for risk of CAUTI during their hospitalization?”.
