From this course, I have learned the importance of reading questions more
thoroughly, as well as the importance of the environment in which you test.
Initially, I had taken these practice assessments in environments that were
loud and inhibited my ability to focus. As I began to recognize this need to
change environments, I began to notice improvements in my testing. I also
noticed other areas in which I could improve, for instance, not changing my
answers.
I have learned how to identify the areas in which I can improve through
these assessments. For instance, through these assessments, I have been able to
identify material that I consecutively need to remediate. This information thus
enables me to focus more on these content areas. From this, the hope is that I
will be well versed in this content and choose the correct information next
time.
Throughout these assessments, I have learned a handful of techniques to
better facilitate my test-taking. For instance, I am quite overwhelmed when
taking assessments and I have learned the importance of taking a moment for
myself. One way I had done so was after a set number of questions I would take
a break. While in the proctored assessment I had taken a sheet of paper to
cover the question number. This had then enabled me to not focus on the number
of questions I had left to complete and solely on what the question was asking
of me.
From this experience, I have learned how to lower test anxiety and improve
my test-taking strategies overall. I have learned first and foremost the
importance of selecting a quiet environment, a loud environment with many
distractions makes concentration on material difficult for anyone. I also have
learned that I rush myself through questions, and thus taking the time to read
questions carefully has helped assist my improvement on these assessments.
Finally, I have learned how to navigate questions and weed out the distractor
answers. This insight has enabled me to improve upon the content area in which
I need to remediate.
